Özet

The main materials used in Anatolia for monumental architecture were based on purpose, technique, and taste. The buildings, which are important for our cultural heritage because of their historical and architectural properties, are damaged because they are not used for a long time, they are not cared for, and they are exposed to adverse effects of natural conditions. The building that protects its authenticity and unity spatially, is exposed to change and deform. Historic structures should be examined in terms of history and architecture, as well as materials and conveyor systems. Priority should be given to using current construction stock that reflects local architecture, and which uses local materials. Ayvalik City Centre Protected Area, which brings together construction materials, climate, tradition, and ethnic groups, is a historic area that needs to be protected due to the cultural values it carries. Civilizations that have lived and developed in the area have left many structures that remain standing today. Civil architecture examples built after 1800 still maintain their characteristics. In the study, the usage of authentic materials and architectural construction/application stages are quoted on an example, to preserve by renovating/improving the housing buildings, constituting the historic and cultural immovables of the Historic City Center of Ayvalik, a district of Balikesir, and to enable them to survive as a part of modern life
