Abstract

Biological treatment sludge must be treated before final disposal since it tends to decay and rot and solid content in sludge is very low and contains pathogen microorganisms. To treat biological sludge, composting is being used an economical stabilization technique. During composting dewatered sludge is being mixed with one or more bulking agent material (wood chips etc.) to ensure the moisture control and supply enough C/N ratio and energy balance. All kind of biological treatment sludge could be processed by composting. In this study, the aerobic compost stabilization of biological treatment sludge alone as well as with corn-processing sludge (prekot) and organic household waste as additional carbon source is conducted. In addition, different bulking agents (wood chips, synthetic material) effects on composting have been revealed. Two parallel trials with a total of 12 reactors have been carried out and the composting process as a change in the basic parameters has been observed. Finally the analysis showing the product quality in the final compost product were presented in the study.
