Abstract

This review offers a comprehensive overview of the current status of metal hydrides in hydrogen storage, addressing their vital role in the hydrogen energy landscape. This review underscores the critical significance of efficient hydrogen storage methods and delves into the intricate mechanisms that make metal hydrides a promising solution. Examining the utilization of magnesium and light metal hydrides, as well as the transformative impact of Mg2Ni and nano-sized structures, A variety of metal hydride technologies are examined in this review, including with a comprehensive explanation of transition metal substitutions that improve hydriding and dehydrating capability. It also discusses the influence of activation energy, oxide substitution, and the diversity of metal hydride options, encompassing rare earth metals and carbon nanotubes. Furthermore, we offer valuable insights into the challenges and prospects surrounding the practical application of metal hydrides for hydrogen storage. In conclusion, this review navigates the intricate landscape of metal hydrides, illuminating their potential to shape the future of hydrogen energy storage.
