dc.description.abstractRandom copolymers with pendant anthracene and carborane units were obtained by ring-opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP). The copolymers exhibit a variety of emission behaviors in solution and mechano-chromic behavior as solids. Photodimerization and photocleavage of the anthracene groups in the copolymers at 350 and 254 nm, respectively, was studied by UV-vis spectroscopy. Thermal properties of the copolymers were evaluated under nitrogen and in air in the range of 25-600 degrees C.en
