An Assessment Approach to Facades as a Tool of Semantic Expression: Study of Facades on Mesrutiyet Street in Istanbul

Abstract

The effects of form on humans and life are a crucial subject of discussion. Facades of buildings that make up the city are greatly responsible for these effects with their figurative characteristics. Identification of the principles and directives that help to maintain syntactic and semantic (subject-object) integrity for the continuity of a city will prevent people from becoming alienated from their surroundsing. To this end, this study focuses on the contribution design and evaluation process on the chosen facade on Mesrutiyet Street. In this scope, the aim scope and method of the study was set forth. The relevant concepts were examined and the method and technique that were to be used in the facade evaluation model were determined. Eventually, presented the interpretations of the findings of the field study and conclusions. In the light of the results discussed future suggestions.
