As part of sustainable development strategy and to tackle negative aspects of post industrial cities, the UK government has launched the Sustainable Communities Plan, accompanied by regional action plans, which major objective was to implement regeneration projects aiming to create sustainable communities. This paper aims to analyse the present agenda for sustainable communities and to establish how this has filtered down through the local authorities of Knowsley MBC and Halton Borough Council to the communities of Stockbridge Village (SV), Murdishaw (M) and Halton Brook (HB), which are the most deprived post industrial areas in the North West of England. The investigation was carried out into the economic, social, physical and environmental impacts on the sustainable agenda using national published statistics and reports for HB, M and SV. Study findings propose objectives that need to be addressed when implementing further urban regeneration programme.en
