Many industrial facilities such as metal plating, mining operations, fertilizer industry, tanneries and textile industries discharge heavy metals via their waste effluents. The disposal of these effluents into natural water resources causes damage to the aquatic environment and in humans some of these metals, even in small amounts can cause severe physiological and health effects. In this study, the adsorption conditions of Co(II) and Ni(II) metal ions onto a strong cation-exchange resin, Amberlite 252 ZU and diatomite have been studied. The different variables affecting the sorption capacity such as pH of the solution, adsorption time, initial metal ion concentration, adsorbent amount have been investigated. Also, for investigation of exchange equilibria different amounts of ion exchange resin and dolomite were contacted with a fixed volume and concentration of a heavy metal bearing solutions. Sorption data have been interpreted in terms of Langmuir and Freundlich equations.en
