Abstract

Transition metal chalcogenides (TMC) (MoS2 and WS2) in 2D structure were synthesized by hydrothermal method on carbon felt (CF) electrodes. Here, we investigated the synthesis of TMC individually and in binary form on CF by hydrothermal method and its effect on supercapacitor performances. Binary TMCs obtained in different ratios showed a synergistic effect and increased the performance of the supercapacitor electrode. Morphological, spectroscopic and electrochemical characterizations of the prepared electrode materials were performed. Examining the supercapacitor performances by elucidating the chemical and physical properties of the supercapacitor electrodes obtained by preparing different ratios of binary combinations of TMCs is the novelty of this study compared to the literature. A specific capacitance of 1097.9 F g- 1 was obtained at 1.0 mV s-1 with the flexible 2:8 MoS2:WS2 electrode. The symmetric supercapacitor obtained with 2:8 MoS2:WS2 electrode showed 88.9 % capacitance retention at 1.3 V operating potential, 5000 cycles and 200 mV s- 1 scan rate, and the energy density was 62.3 Wh kg-1 . Also, 2:8 MoS2:WS2//2:8 MoS2:WS2 symmetric supercapacitor exhibited a specific capacitance of 265.4 F g-1 at a current density of 75 mA cm- 2 .
