Abstract
This study examines the impacts of decentralization on urban space, highlighting how different countries and cities adopt it to address local needs. The research aims to explore the relationship between decentralization and urban contexts, focusing on the Tokyo Metropolitan Area and contextualizing it within industrialization, modernization, and globalization. A three-stage strategic document review identifies key policies shaping Tokyo's urbanization, analyzed through population dynamics and urban sprawl. The findings indicate that decentralization serves not only as a structural shift but also a strategic approach to manage urban growth, offering valuable insights for urban planning and contributing to sustainable urban development strategies.
