Özet

This paper evaluates the impact of shaft generator integration on ships on CO2 emissions within the scope of the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) regulation. A total of 27 ship models of 12 different ship types are considered for this evaluation. The EEDI values of ship types without and with shaft generator integration are evaluated in grams of CO2 per ship's capacity-mile. In addition, the potential impact of integrating shaft generators on ships on total CO2 emissions from the global shipping fleet is assessed, and future projections are discussed. The results indicate that the reduction rate in the attained EEDI can vary between 1.6 % and 5.3 %, depending on the parameters of the ships. The findings also suggest that the potential to reduce CO2 emissions from the global shipping fleet is approximately 4.2 %. Therefore, it can be stated that regulations aimed at promoting the use of technologies that increase energy efficiency will significantly contribute to sustainable ship design and cleaner maritime transport.
