Active and passive optical communication systems have been commonly deployed all over the world. Even though active optical networks have high capacity, during last decade passive optical networks gained popularity due to their lower cost and high-speed transmission rates. In this study, point-to-point and point-to-multipoint active and passive optical communication networks are designed and their performances determined by simulations on OptiSystem 17.1 optical communication system software are compared.en
