THEORETICAL AND METHODOLOGICAL DISCUSSION OF THE SPACE SYNTAX ANALYSIS AS A TOOL FOR READING THE CITY

Abstract

This paper is focused on the theoretical and methodological discussion of the space syntax analysis. Space syntax is a method developed to derive the social logic of space with the theory that society has a spaital logic. The analysis is especially useful in reading the urban open spaces for their potentials of bringing people together randomly. While situating the research paradigm within the other urban analysis methods, the aim of the paper is to objectively critisize the potentials and the pitfalls of the methodological approach and the technique.
