The rehabilitation project of the Suleymaniye district

Abstract

Suleymaniye is the most important historical part of beautiful Istanbul. Different cultures, such as christianism by Byzantium Empire, islamism by Ottornan Empire and however the modem movements of the Turkish Rebuplic has been entegrated period by period on Suleymaniye site. Within 2600 pars, Suleymaniye has been one of the only historical sites of the world on where cultural, social and historical qualities have been living continiously. The rehability project of this area was made by Proje Architectural Group from 1996 to the beginning of 1999. I was one of the architectural historian adviser and planner of this project. The project consisted of analysis and sythessis phases about Suleymaniye site, 1/200 detailed rehability and design project phase and all under-structural details. The aim was to preserve and transverse the cultural, historical, architectural and social qualities to the next generations. Therefore, the paper will have the historical changes on Suleymaniye district and all of the project phases.
